TV, books & marks

A couple weeks ago I finished watching all 4 seasons of How I met your mother. One of my favourite shows for sure! I can’t wait until the new season in September. I really wanna know who the mother is!!!

Sis & I started to watch Desperate Housewives, mainly because of W’s recommendation from months ago. 10 eps down and a lot more to go. This show is amazing.. there are NO dull parts during the entire 40-something minutes. Season 5 is coming in Sept I believe~

I finished Hunting & Gathering. It was pretty good.. but I dont know what I’d rate it. I’m biased in that it was based in France so in my head I gave it 10000 bonus points HAHA! I tried reading the french version right after finishing the english, but it was surely an impossible task. I can read the same book twice… but definitely not one after the other.

I’m half way through “The boy who was raised as a dog” by Dr. Bruce Perry

I never paid attention to psychology or psychiatry related things. I never considered it because… really… feelings.. people…. not my thing. I can’t show empathy or anything related. But since I’ve started to read this… my interest in pediatric psychiatry(is that a word? ok child psychiatry) has elevated immensely. It has shot up into the sky.

I recommend people read this. It’s full of facts and information about the brain and will surely intrigue anyone. IT’S SO GOOD!! I’ve been staying up really late reading this every night and I’m like 5 hrs behind on sleep. I can’t help it! BTW I saw this on oprah’s website hehehe

Maybe psychiatry is my future. Who knows~

I can’t believe I didn’t blog about my prov marks immediately upon knowing!

  • Science10 > prov: 90% class: 96% final: 95%
  • math12 > prov: 95% class: 98% final: 97%

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THUMBS DOWN!!!!! Only to my math mark. Science hardly affects me.. I didn’t study for the prov and not so much the class so I’m satisfied. But my math mark.. one that actually matters I did shitty on the prov. After discussing some questions with my peers(like 3 others out of 10 who took it), I got 2 qs wrong due to some petty little mistakes. Luckily, BC universities only care about the higher of the 2 mark so 98 isn’t toOoO bad.

CC INFO SESSION YESTERDAY

I had to dress semi-formal ISH; interview attire almost. I wore this white shrirt with this sweater. It’s hard to describe AHAHA. Dress pants and FLATS omg. I wore my sister’s flats. How can you wear flats? THye don’t even stay on your feet…  plus they hurt.

It was 2 hours long and there was a huge number of people there. Apparenlty approx. 60 last year but I think there was more. Obvs a bunch of people more qualified than me as well as less qualified(from the looks of it). This is my quick judgement of the way they speak, their composure, etc. Some people were great. During the Q and A period, some people do not know how to talk = fail in a professional setting. ie. Like you know what you said about blaghblahbalhg well like….

YOU WANNA KNOW SOMETHING THAT REALLY IRKS ME? I hate people who are persistent. One person that sticks out in my mind is Hok from SYTYCD season 1,4,5,6,8. Some of the people who were at the meeting didn’t get the job last year so they came back. There was approx. 10 of them. IT IS SO PATHETIC! If you get it then you get it, if you don’t you’re not supposed to -.-”

I saw brendan from my elem. He moved to a diff hs so I haven’t seen him in ages. That was a pleasant surprise ^-^

Yay I ordered my book. GOtta wait 1-3 weeks :( . AFter I ordered my book I went to the word reference section and I found this word in “100 words lovers should know” callipygian, which means having a extremely well-proportioned butt. HAHAHA

Guess what I’m reading!

The adventure of sherlock holmes. I finished reading Dry the other day, finishing the last 75 pages that one night. I found this cool game on DS “100 classic book collection” . So there’s 100 CLASSIC books on the game. It’s basically like an huge ebook, with classic classics such as: Sense & sensibility, Price and Prejudice, Moby Dick, Hamlet, Oliver Twist, Phantom of the Opera, yadda yadda yadda.

I decided to start TAoSH and it’s much better than I thought it would be. I love the way the writer writes. It’s brill! … (I heard an aussie say that on the bus so it must be cool on some degree).

Anyway I got 8/10 on my math quiz today because: the line I drew was NOT 100% straight and it kind of curved. -1 and with reciprocal functions they’re pretty much predictable so I got carried away and make the line continue on to infinity. Bad idea. -1

Tenants

Some people called today and came to see our downstairs. Turns out to my H’s cousin’s family, who don’t get along well. But she has said some good things about them so I don’t see a problem, nor does my mom. A divorced mother, 2 kids: boy and girl.

The other guy who wanted to rent our house was… 40? and a bachelor. My dad didn’t like that so he thought of many many reasons for him(or anyone) to not rent out house. He likes his space. A notable excuse: “He’s nam so he’s probably catholic. We’re buddhist and we can’t have a catholic person downstairs because it won’t cause harmony for us and cause conflict!” HAHA my mom told me that today and we had a good laugh. He doesn’t judge people by their religion but he didn’t really like the man so he thought of everything and anything.

We wrote in the ad “internet included” and I was sort of regretting it because I made a thread @ MV and people reminded me of the fact that if they were to download any shiz we would be to blame because we pay for internet. Mom has already asked H and she’s said good things about them. Clean living, pays on time, well behaved kids, even though they don’t exactly get along too well. I’m not too worried right now and I hope the kids are really geeky.

We were going to do sign up for extras tomorrow at metro, but W’s kinda lazy and her reasons have changed my mind as well. I hope mom drives tomorrow. I should get that bench jacket in S. I tired on xs today and let me tell you I am not XS. I’m not an impulse buyer so I can wait till things go on sale (Y)! The jacket was 135? and I said I would buy it(with my own money.. for once..) once it’s down to 80, which it is. Hm maybe.

This always happens. I like something, don’t buy it right away and then later realize I don’t really want it. It saves me a lot of $$.

Janet’s metal thing from her braces have gotten loose so we’ve gotta go up to her ortho and get if fixed. = zzzZZzZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzZZZZz

WENDY I’ve been nudging youf or the past 20 mins and you still haven’t replied. WHERE ART THOU?

zZzzZz me and mom were supposed to clean our “photo” closet(where we keep all our photos and other shiz) but we forgot about it. Janet had dance today and we drove them & drove back. We didn’t know what to do for 2-3 hours so we went to Walmart, glory meat shop, library, T&T @ surrey central and winners. MMmM we got honey hand soap from Winners. Yum. I bought some binders for second semester….. oh and toilet and tissue paper! (LOL).

This morning I finished Look me in the Eye by JER. I rushed to finish the last 20 pages so I could return it. I got Dry by AB today ^-^. I have read too much about Augusten and John E’s life. I know too much and it’s a tad stalkerish. I blame that their lives are much more interesting than my boring life(which I blog about everyday).

Deception Point & Pet peeve(s)

I finished reading it yesterday morning! Hats off to Dan Brown for being an amazing writer. HIS BOOKS = FREAKEN awesome. So I’ve reading A&D, The DV code and now DP. All his books are so factual, realistic, visual and just hands down amazing. If you haven’t read any of his books you have no excuse, unless you have been living under a cardboard box or something along those lines.

I FHUIHCCKING hate how my French teacher says “will” as “well”. I well do it… WhAT THE HELL?

New years resolutions/goals for 2009

Yup it’s that time of year again. I don’t know the exact meaning of resolutions-nor am I going to look it up so I’ll just make two lists. Goals are….. what you strive to achieve, but is achievable(?) and resolutions are what you are planning to do differently/change (about yourself). That’s the way I see it now and I’m probably wrong. Oh well.

Resolutions:

  • Eat less meat. Wait not eat less meat but eat as much vegetables as I eat meat
  • stop picking at my bottom lip and making it bleed
  • be a good person(not being wasteful, and not throwing away unused napkins, creams, etc etc. at work and BE POSITIVE)

Goals:

  • 80%+ on all my provincials
  • Spend LESS than an hour on the computer a day
  • learn “till I find you” and “Victor’s piano solo” and at least 2 more songs this year on the piano. Not learn. Perfect.
  • make only 1 paper toy a week. Nothing less and nothing more. (I’ve started only a couple days ago and I have about 10. Not only is it a waste(well not really..) of paper, but it’s lot of ink. Damn is ink expensive :(
  • LEARN HOW TO HANDWRITE LIKE A HUMAN BEING

and……..not only for this year ’cause everything’s eventual!

  • try everything on my (workplace) menu

I probably used those two interchangably. Meh.

It’s only the fourth day into the new year and… there’s been 11,000 suicides, 1,5 million births. :/

HAPPY NEW YEARS(eve)!!@!@!@!@

I finished it a couple days ago! wewt. I learnt some French.

Now I’m 1/3 into Deception Point by Dan Brown. It is so good so far. Just as good as A&D and the DC. It amazes me how he writes these amazing books with so much factual things and places. How do you do it? Dan Brown is an amazing writer, no?

I’m not. Cause I used amazing twice.

I will never write a book. It would make your eyes bleed.

On a side note….. when reading Augusten Burroughs’ books, whenever there was mention of his older brother, John, they referred to as John ELDER. I always thought they called him that cause he’s the older brother…. but it’s actually his middle name. How about that? *snort*

So right now I’m waiting with my sis to get a rid to my grandparents’ house to spend new years eve. We’re still waiting.. and waiting… ’cause mom is getting my sis to curl her hair. EVERYTIME they go out, my mom makes it a big deal and has to dress up.. change…… fix something…. get her hair straightened or (ugly) curls in her hair. My dad has bascially chasing flies and twiddling his thumbs right now.

To get ready…
Mom takes: 1.5 hours (approximately)
Dad takes: 5 minutes (probably 10 at most)

My sister takes: anywhere from 10-30 minutes
I take: 5 minutes….. 7 max

FUck old white librarians. They are so OLD FASHIONED ‘n shit. So I had 2 books on hold but I couldn’t find my moms library card(it’s under her name). I told the fuckingoldwhitelibrarian that I knew the number by heart, the pin, the address, phone number and all the personal information as I am her daughter. GOd she is so old fashioned she said to me “Nope. I wouldn’t even let your mom take it out without proper ID if she didn’t have her library card. Now go put those hold sheets back on the books.”

Fuck you. I should’ve ran to the young brown EXTREMELY easy-going guy cause he’s the most awesomest librarian this library has ever seen.

Eats, Shoots and Leaves quotes that I adore:

Caring abut matters of language is unfortunately generally associated with small-minded people, but that doesn’t make it a small issue. The disappearance of puncuation(including word spacing, capital etters, and so on) indicates an enormous shift in our attitude to the written word, and nobody knows where it will end.

xxvi

In 1953’s You have a point there by Eric Partridge, “using colons in your writing is the equivalent of playing the piano with crossed hands.

On the internet, scrolling documents is the opposite of reading. Your eyes remain static, while the material flows past.

Thurber was onced asked by a correspondent, why did you have a comma in the sentence, “After dinner, the men went into the living room.”? And his answer was one of the loveliest things ever said about puncuation. “This particular comma, ” Thurber explained, “was Ross’ way of giving the men time to push back their chairs and stand up.”

I blame all the emails and text messages, people say, when you talk about the decline in punctuation standards. Well, yes. The effect on language of the electronic age is obvious to all, even though the process has only began, and its ultimate impact is as yet unimaginable.

Lynne Truss is brilliant. <3
I especially love the penultimate quote.
